What Makes a Great Protein Shake
There are lots of different protein shake recipes available, but the absolute key to making the perfect protein shake is the protein powder you use.
Not all protein powders are created equally! You want to ensure that your protein powder is easily digestible, tastes good and isn’t filled with ingredients to bulk it out.
I like to use Arbonne protein powder for several reasons –
- Tastes good
- It’s a vegan protein
- GMO free & gluten free and also doesn’t contain any hidden ‘nasties’
You might think that tastes good shouldn’t be at the top, but seriously would you keep drinking a shake that tasted horrible? I wouldn’t and Arbonne’s protein shakes are the nicest one’s I’ve tried.
I like the fact that it’s a vegan protein because that means no whey products. Whey protein powders can be hard for some people’s bodies to digest (and as a side note one of the side effects can be back acne – yuk!). When choosing a vegan protein poder, however you must make sure it’s a complete protein which Arbonne’s is.
Pea protein is one of the easiest to digest proteins and is the basis of Arbonne’s protein powder. However the problem with pea protein is that it isn’t a complete protein and this is why Arbonne’s protein powder also includes brown rice protein and cranberry protein. Vegan, easily digestible and complete – a winning formula.
All of Arbonne’s products are vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, non GMO, and do not have any hidden nasties – Arbonne have banned the use of 2000 ingredients from their products in order to stick to their motto – Pure, Safe & Beneficial.
How to Make a Protein Shake
- 250ml of water or non dairy milk
- 2 scoops of protein powder
- 1 scoop fibre boost
- one handful of spinach or kale*
- one handful of frozen berries
*You could substitute this for a scoop of Greens Balance
Pop all of the above into a blender and blitz until smooth.
There are lots of different recipes available and you can play around with flavor combinations that you like, my personal favorite at the moment is as follows –
- 250ml water
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder
- 1 scoop fibre boost
- 1 tsp Maca powder
- 2 tsp black chia seeds
- tsp cacao powder
- 1/2 cup of frozen dark cherries
I pop all of the above into a blender and blitz – it is delicious. I don’t add spinach or kale although I have done in the past mainly because I have a green ogre drink after my morning shake and I eat a small salad with my lunch time shake.
